Gifts
Gifts are the presents the household is planning and the ones it has given. A gift moves through four statuses, turns into an errand in Tasks when it is planned, and ends up in a history you can look back at next year. The person it is for never sees any of it.
Gift planning is a Premium feature; see Free and Premium below.
Open a person's page in People and look under Gifts, or open More → Gifts for every gift in one list. The Tasks hub has a Gifts card that opens the same list.
The four statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Idea | Something you might get. Not committed. |
| Planned | You are getting it. An errand appears in your Tasks. |
| Bought | It is in the cupboard. The errand is done. |
| Given | Handed over, with a date. It moves to history. |
Each gift row has a button for the next step: Mark planned, Mark bought, Mark given. To go back a step, open the row's menu (⋮), choose Edit and change the Status.
Adding a gift
Tap + next to Gifts on a person's page, or + in the gift list, and fill in:
- Gift — the name.
- For — the person. Set already when you start from their page.
- Who can see this — the household, adults only, or only you. Whichever you choose, the person the gift is for never sees it.
- Status — starts as Idea.
- Occasion — pick one, or create it on the spot. Famn offers the person's birthday from their contact if it is not an occasion yet.
- Link — a product page, with a preview fetched for you.
- Photo, description, price and notes under More details.
Most gifts start as a wish: take a wish on with I'll get this, answer Plan gift, and it is added here as Planned with the link and price already filled in.
The errand in Tasks
When a gift becomes Planned, Famn creates a to-do for it in a list called Gifts under Tasks → To-dos. The list is yours alone: it is private, so nobody else in the household sees its items, not even the adults. That is why the errand can say everything you need at the shop:
- The gift's name as the title.
- Who it is for, the occasion, the price and the link in the description.
- The occasion's next date as the due date.
- You as the assignee.
Open the errand and the Connected gift card takes you back to the gift.
The two stay in step:
- Tick the errand in Tasks and the gift becomes Bought. Untick it and the gift goes back to Planned.
- Mark the gift as bought or given in People and the errand is completed.
- Go back to Idea, or delete the gift, and the errand is removed.
If you open the Tasks hub and see a shared list called Gifts from before this change, it is safe to delete; new errands go to your private list.
To do and Given
The gift list has two tabs:
- To do — ideas, planned and bought gifts, grouped by person, so you see what is still to sort out before the day.
- Given — everything handed over, grouped by year and occasion. View given gifts on a person's page opens it for that person.
Use Filters to narrow by person, occasion or year, and the search field to find a gift, a person or an occasion by name.
Who sees what
A gift's Who can see this decides which household members see it, so a parent can keep a child out of the planning, or keep a gift for their partner to themselves. On top of that, the person a gift is for never sees it, and the app never hints at how many gifts exist for them. Their own page has no gifts section at all.
The daily reminder mentions nothing planned yet next to a person you have no gift for before an upcoming occasion. It never says it about you.
Free and Premium
Gift planning is where the household coordinates, and coordination is Premium: statuses, the errand, the history and taking on a wish. Recording people, sizes and wishes is free.

Tips
- Plan before December. A planned gift is an errand with a due date, so Christmas shopping becomes a list instead of a memory test.
- Let the wish do the typing. Plan from a wish and the link and price come along.
- Mark it given. Next year's Given tab tells you what grandma already has.
- Check the visibility for a partner's gift. Only me keeps it off the shared plan.
