Get the Most Out of the Shopping List in Heima

Heima makes grocery shopping easier. The shopping list has two modes – planning and shopping – giving you full control both before and during your trip to the store.

Planning Mode

Planning mode is where you add items and organize your shopping list.

Easily Add Items

Search for products: Type in what you need and get suggestions based on what you usually buy.
Product categories: You can also add general items like “milk,” “bread,” or “eggs.”
Free text: Items you’ve added manually before appear as suggestions.

Use the Barcode Scanner

Scan an item to add it to your list.
If the product isn’t in Heima’s database, it will search external services automatically.
If the product is still not found, you can add it yourself by taking photos – Heima will extract the info automatically.

Edit Item Info

Tap the image or info icon on an item to:

Change quantity and unit
Add a description
View product info (if linked to a real product)
Premium users also see nutrition facts*, ingredients*, and price stats*

*Data availability may vary by region.

Smart Suggestions

Heima learns your shopping habits over time.
Frequently purchased items are suggested automatically and adjusted based on patterns (e.g., milk often, toilet paper less often).
Premium users get more accurate suggestions based on past behavior.

Shopping Mode

When you’re ready to shop, tap the “Start shopping” button at the bottom of the list.

What Happens When You Start a Shopping Trip?

If you’re near a grocery store, Heima will suggest nearby stores.
Select a store to have your list sorted by that store’s categories.
The order of categories adjusts based on your past shopping trips.
If you’ve never been to the store, Heima uses an average pattern based on other users.

Pick Items While You Shop

Search or scan products as you shop.
The more you register, the smarter Heima gets at suggesting items next time.
This also helps future features, like showing where your list is cheapest.

Contribute Price Data (Optional)

You can scan price tags to contribute to Heima’s price database.
This is an experimental feature and may be limited in your region.

Loyalty Cards

If you’ve added a loyalty card in the app, it will automatically appear at the end of your shopping trip – ready to scan at checkout.

Real-Time Collaboration

In both modes, you can collaborate in real-time with others in your Heima space. Any changes to the shopping list appear instantly – perfect for shopping together, even apart.

Tips for the Best Shopping Experience

Add items in planning mode while at home.
Start the shopping trip in the app once you’re in the store.
Scan items and prices along the way.
Tap “Done” when you’ve finished.
Use your loyalty card straight from the app.
