What Is a Space in Heima?

A space in Heima is a kind of workspace where you collect features like shopping lists, recipes, tasks, and more. Everything you add in the app is connected to the active space you’re currently in.

You can have multiple spaces and switch between them easily – for example, one for your family and another for work. This helps you stay organized and separate different parts of your life.

Types of Spaces

When creating a space, you choose a type based on your relationship with the people you want to share it with:

Private: Just for you. Cannot be shared and has limited collaboration features.
Household: Ideal for people living together, like in a shared home.
Family: Perfect for families with children to manage shared tasks and grocery lists.
Friends: For everything from dinner planning to trips with friends.
Work: Used with colleagues or volunteers to organize tasks.

Note: You can change the space type later, unless it is Private with invited members.

If you want to collaborate with someone in Heima, the space must not be private. Once you’ve selected a shareable space type:

Go to Settings in the app.
Select the space you want to share.
Tap Send an invitation.
Choose how to send it – e.g. via SMS or email.

The recipient will receive a link to download the app (if they don’t already have it). After creating an account, they will automatically be added to the space.

QR Code

You can also display a QR code in the app, which the other person can scan. This is a quick way to invite someone standing nearby.

Switching Between Spaces

You can only have one active space at a time, but switching is easy. Just open the app menu and tap Switch space to move between them.

Real-Time Collaboration

When you share a space with others, everything updates in real time. If someone adds an item to the shopping list or checks off a task, you’ll see it immediately – like magic (but practical).

Leaving or Removing Members

A user can leave a space at any time (unless they are the owner).
The owner of a space can remove other users.
If the owner deletes their Heima account, the space and all associated data will also be deleted. Other members will lose access to that space.
