Optimize Your Household Shopping with Insights

Insights gives you a complete picture of how your household shops — how much you spend, what you buy most often, which stores you visit, and how your household members contribute. It also powers the Space Score leaderboard, where members earn points for completing tasks and can unlock rewards.

Insights is a premium feature and requires an active Heima subscription.


Overview Dashboard

The Insights overview is your household's shopping command centre. Pull to refresh at any time to load the latest data.

Summary Metrics

Four key numbers at a glance:

  • Total shopping sessions — how many grocery runs have been recorded.
  • Total items picked — the total number of individual items collected across all sessions.
  • Total spending — combined spend across all sessions where a receipt has been matched.
  • Average spend per session — total spending divided by the number of sessions.

Weekly Spend Trend

A line chart showing your household's spending week by week over time. Use this to spot patterns — are you spending more in winter? Did that new store subscription save money?

Day-of-Week Shopping Pattern

A bubble chart showing which days of the week each household member tends to shop. The size of each bubble reflects how many items were picked on that day. Useful for coordinating who shops when.

Top Product Categories

A bar chart of the top 6 product categories by number of items purchased. See at a glance whether your household is spending most on fresh produce, dairy, snacks, or something else.

Top Stores

The five stores visited most often, each showing:

  • Number of sessions
  • Total items picked
  • Total spending

Who Shops Most

A breakdown of each household member's contribution — sessions started, items picked, and total spending.

Top Products

A preview of the four most frequently purchased products, with a link to see the full ranked list.

Recent Sessions

A preview of the latest four shopping trips, with a link to browse all sessions.


Top Products

The Top Products page shows every product your household has purchased, ranked from most to least frequently bought. Tap any product to see its full details — including category, typical quantity, and price information.


Shopping Sessions

Shopping sessions are automatically created each time a household member taps Start Shopping on a grocery list. Every item they pick is recorded, giving you a permanent log of what was bought, when, and where.

Sessions List

All sessions are displayed in reverse chronological order. Each entry shows:

  • Who started the session (profile photo and name)
  • Date and time of the trip
  • Store name

Tap any session to open the detail view.

Session Detail

The session detail page gives you the full picture of a single shopping trip:

  • Date and time of the trip
  • Store visited
  • Item count — total number of items picked
  • Receipt status — whether a receipt has been uploaded and matched
  • List of picked items — every item recorded during the session, with name, quantity, and unit

Uploading a Receipt

To track your spending accurately, attach a receipt to the session. Tap Upload Receipt and photograph or select your receipt. Heima extracts the line items automatically.

Matching Receipt Lines

Once a receipt is uploaded, Heima attempts to match each line to the items picked during the session. Open Match Receipt to review and correct any matches. Each receipt line can be:

  • Unmatched — not yet linked to a picked item
  • Direct match — automatically linked by product name or barcode
  • Learned match — linked based on previous matching patterns

Completing the match ensures your spending totals and per-product pricing are accurate in the overview.

Adding Session Items to Storage

After a shopping trip, you can move purchased items directly into your storage lists (freezer, refrigerator, pantry, etc.) using the Add to Storage wizard.

Step 1 — Choose storage lists: Select which storage areas to use. You can create new storage lists (Freezer, Refrigerator, Pantry, or Other) directly from this step if they don't exist yet.

Step 2 — Assign items: For each picked item you'll see:

  • The item name and quantity
  • A recommended storage type based on the product's temperature requirements
  • A dropdown to select which storage list it should go into
  • An expiry date picker, pre-filled based on the product's typical shelf life
  • A Skip button if you don't want to track a particular item

Tap Save to add all assigned items to their respective storage lists in one go.


Space Score

Space Score is a weekly points system that rewards household members for completing tasks and chores. It makes everyday household responsibilities more engaging — especially for children and families.

How It Works

  • Every task completed earns XP (experience points).
  • Harder tasks earn more XP.
  • Completing tasks consistently builds a streak.
  • At the end of each week (the season resets every Monday), scores are tallied.
  • Members are ranked on a leaderboard.

Leaderboard

The leaderboard shows all household members ranked by XP for the current week.

Season header shows:

  • The current season's date range (e.g., "Mar 10 – Mar 16")
  • How many days remain until the season resets
  • A note that streaks carry over across weeks

Each leaderboard entry shows:

  • Rank (1st is gold, 2nd silver, 3rd bronze)
  • Profile photo and display name
  • Number of tasks completed this week
  • Current streak in days

Tap any participant to see their detailed stats:

  • Total XP this season
  • Tasks completed
  • Current streak
  • Longest streak ever

If the current user holds first place, a confetti animation plays automatically.

Recent Seasons Chart

Below the leaderboard, a bar chart shows XP earned across past seasons. This lets you track progress over time and see whether you're consistently improving.


Rewards

Rewards give household members something to work towards. Once a member earns enough XP and completes enough tasks, they can claim a reward defined by an admin — anything from "Movie Night Pick" to "Skip One Chore".

Claiming a Reward

When the unlock conditions for a reward are met, a Claim button appears on the reward card. Tap it to submit a claim.

Each reward card shows:

  • The reward name, icon, and description
  • What type it is (manual, privilege, treat, or custom)
  • The requirements (minimum chores, XP, and effort level)
  • Whether the reward is repeatable and any cooldown period
  • Current status — claimable, locked, or in cooldown

If you don't yet meet the requirements, the reward is shown as locked with the reason displayed.

Managing Claims (Admins)

Admins can switch between viewing their own rewards and viewing rewards for other Space Members (such as children) using the member selector at the top of the Rewards page.

Incoming claims are displayed in four tabs:

For each claim, an admin can:

  • Approve — confirm the member has earned the reward
  • Fulfill — mark that the reward has actually been given
  • Reject — decline the claim, optionally with a reason

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Insights

  • Upload receipts after every shopping trip to keep spending totals accurate. The more receipt data you have, the more useful the trend charts become.
  • Use the Add to Storage wizard after big grocery runs to keep your pantry and fridge tracking up to date.
  • Set up Rewards before the season starts so members have something to work towards from the beginning of the week.
  • Check the day-of-week chart to coordinate shopping — if two household members are both shopping on Thursdays, you might be able to combine trips.
  • Space Members (like children) appear on the leaderboard even without a Heima account. Assign tasks to them and manage their progress on their behalf.
  • Streaks survive the weekly reset — consistent daily task completion compounds over time, even as the XP leaderboard resets each Monday.
